Programme overview

Outstanding Mathematics departments are vital to the performance and success of any school.  The successful leader of mathematics must have a relentless focus on improving the quality of teaching and learning, be aware of the best of national practice and up to date with current changes in education.  This programme, consisting of four one day events hosted in schools all with outstanding mathematics departments and a strong record of raising attainment, will provide opportunities to explore strategies that have been proven to raise achievement and engagement.

Eligibility: For heads of mathematics and seconds in mathematics

Cost:  £750 (+ VAT) for members; £1,125 (+VAT) for non-members

Start date:  September 2013

Structure:  A one-year programme comprising of four events

  • An enquiry based approach
  • Engaging learners
  • Curriculum models

Event 3:  Raising achievement strategies, date to be confirmed, Sidney Stringer Academy, Coventry

  • Sharing best practice and resources
  • Using new technologies and ICT to support learning
  • Using assessment effectively to drive up standards
  • Supporting vulnerable students and intervention strategies

Event 4: Leading a successful department

  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Working with and development non-specialist mathematics teachers
  • Building a high performance mathematics department
