In this ever changing educational climate we still have our Year 6 pupils and teachers starting in September who deserve the best they can possibly achieve. One year before ‘life without levels’, how can SSAT support you? Building on the highly successful and oversubscribed courses earlier this year, SSAT is extending the mathematics course to other regions.
The course aims to provide high-quality training to equip primary school practitioners with the skills, knowledge and confidence to excite, engage and extend children to access high levels of thinking and the Level 6 curriculum (for 2014), learning and achievement in maths and English, as well as provide strategies that enable all children to reach their full potential.
This suite of one-day courses have been developed in partnership with outstanding Primary schools (for example, Halstow primary school, who will host this year’s London events, achieved 30% level 6 in 2012 and 36% Level 6 mathematics in 2013).
These outstanding Primary schools will host the events so that you can see effective strategies in practice, learn new approaches and leave with practical ideas and resources you can use the next day.
Learning that takes place on the course is experiential: teachers are put in to the position of learners, observers and leaders. This provides the opportunity to experience first-hand the effective pedagogy, strategies and tools used by outstanding schools to achieve amazing results in the ‘right’ way; through reasoning, understanding and application.
Monday 2 December, Halstow Primary School, London.
Quotes from previous delegates – ‘I’ve thoroughly enjoyed today’s training session as well as seeing this in practice. Very enthusiastic trainers with clear explanations. I am going away feeling inspired! Thank you.’ ‘Thank you – I have been very impressed with the day! It has given me the confidence (as a less confident mathematician) to teach maths to a higher level.’
The course is suitable for:
- Maths subject leaders
- Year 6 teachers
- Primary classroom practitioners wishing to improve their subject knowledge and subject pedagogy
