Lead Practitioner: Creating agents of change

What is an SSAT Lead Practitioner? What do they do? Ultimately, everything an LP does can and should enhance the daily lived experience of learners in their school and beyond, but just as important (particularly at this time of a crisis in teacher retention) it enhances the daily lived experience of colleagues, raising morale and fulfilling our moral purpose in education.

Teacher morale and retention

The key issues relating to teacher recruitment and retention were considered by our CEO Sue Williamson and Professor John Howson in a conversation last term. It is significant that teachers are striking for better working conditions due to a perceived crisis in education, a crisis of teacher retention most likely linked to low morale and high workload. A large number of teachers don’t stay beyond the five-year mark according to DfE figures.

Adaptive teaching – what are we adapting to, and why?

It seems that everyone is talking about adaptive teaching at the moment. With inclusion at the heart of the new Ofsted framework and the emphasis on ‘inclusive mainstream’, it is not surprising that there is a lot of discussion about how we might meet the varying needs of learners. However, does adaptive teaching offer fresh insights into this challenge or a repositioning of previous thinking?
