iNet Charter for Action

The iNet Charter for Action is a powerful statement created by 65 school leaders from seven countries. It sets out a vision for how school leadership must evolve to meet the demands of a rapidly globalising world. Rooted in the principle of being ‘for schools by schools’ it reflects shared commitments that leaders agree to embody and promote within their own systems.

The Charter begins by reaffirming five global ‘self‑evident truths’: endemic inequality across the globe, globalisation and a ‘shrinking world’, the different talents of learners and the task of educators to nurture them, the need for school leaders to be at the forefront of transformation and innovation, and differences in cultures and contexts.

Leaders commit to developing an innovative curriculum, embracing new pedagogies and technologies and redesigning learning around students’ aptitudes, passions and developmental stages. The Charter also champions adaptability, distributed leadership, creativity and deep professional learning as essential capacities for the future.

A significant emphasis is placed on preparing all students for success in the 21st century. This includes promoting personalisation, global citizenship, problem‑solving, creativity, digital literacy and co‑constructed learning.

The iNet Charter for Action features in SSAT’s latest pamphlet, Deep Leadership for Educational Transformation, which argues that the Charter is still hugely relevant and what we should all be working towards today.
