SSAT: COVID-19 and Gavin Williamson’s school closures announcement

18 March 2020
By SSAT

SSAT welcomes the government’s decision to close schools from Friday evening. We know that schools have struggled to maintain classes due to staff shortages through illness and self isolation. This has caused considerable stress and strain to school leaders, staff, students and parents.

We are pleased that the decision to cancel examinations has been made now, so that there is no uncertainty. We hope that qualifications can be awarded on the basis of teacher assessments. School leaders can now focus on how they support vulnerable children and children of key workers.

SSAT has nothing but admiration for the work and dedication of all teachers. Thank you to everyone.

However, does adaptive teaching offer fresh insights into this challenge or a repositioning of previous thinking?
