There will rightly many tributes to Dave Baker. He was much loved and admired, he brought people together in a way few can do. His height and colourful bow ties meant he stood out in a crowd, and reflected his stature among those who knew him, his warmth and sense of fun.

Student Leadership: A more nuanced approach to participation and empowerment

Since the turn of the calendar year, I have been responsible for SSAT’s offer for supporting schools in supporting student leadership. When I took on this role, I couldn’t have been more delighted because my first brief as a newly appointed assistant headteacher was to build our school’s student leadership offer. Adaptive teaching – what are we adapting to, and why?

It seems that everyone is talking about adaptive teaching at the moment. With inclusion at the heart of the new Ofsted framework and the emphasis on ‘inclusive mainstream’, it is not surprising that there is a lot of discussion about how we might meet the varying needs of learners. However, does adaptive teaching offer fresh insights into this challenge or a repositioning of previous thinking?
